The Updater: Are the Mets real?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: No. All of the sudden, the Mets are off and running, winning all three of three games in the first week of the season. Whoop-dee-doo.

We’ve seen this before. The Orioles, win all 6 of their first games. The Red Sox, lose all six of their first games. It simply doesn’t really matter. This is the first week. We haven’t met our breakthrough star, our big hitter, our MVP, our big team.

You can’t judge a book by it’s cover is a good saying, right? Well, you can’t judge a season by it’s first week. For instance: The Orioles came in last. The Red Sox won 90 games. It simply doesn’t have a huge effect on the season.

Plus, you can be hot right out of the gate, and that’s fine. But, if you don’t have a big hitter, a big star? Chances are, the Mets will not be in the playoffs this year.

P.S – Sorry this post is so short – I’ll write a normal post tomorrow, but I needed to write something on this in a short time frame.

I agree. They’re not for real, and sweeping a team that SI picked to finish just ahead of the Mets is not a big deal.
