When was the last time you thought about the 2006 world series? Okay, let me rephrase: when was the last time you thought about the 2006 world series if you aren’t a Tigers or Cardinals fan?
Well, you may have forgotten. But it’s okay, since right now, it looks like we’ll be seeing a rematch. Except….
This time, it might be different. It just might. And in fact, right now, it looks like it will. So, if you’ve followed this blog for a while, I’m back with my original pick. Tigers.
All this year, I’ve talked about momentum, momentum, momentum. And I’m back with it. Stealing the division was fine. But the the Tigers have won 5 straight playoff games. In my mind, that is as much momentum as you can gather. It just seems perfect.
Even so, it doesn’t make tons of sense – how can the least-winning, offense prodigy-that-never-delivered, behind white sox for the entire season team – be on their way to the world series – and to a banner and trophy?
Simple: this team clicked at the right time. The Cardinals started a bit too early. They started in late September. The Tigers just hit their peak.
But why won’t the Cardinals win?
Because there hasn’t been a repeat team in forever. And the Cardinals are an offense heavy team going against a team of aces.
Plus, who says the Giants won’t make a comeback?
So I give the nod to the Tigers. You can’t beat a sweep.
